Playback Images was founded by producer Bas Bakker and director/editor Jelmar Hoekstra (NCE). We develop and produce non-fiction titles and programs for broadcasters, streaming platforms, cinemas and online.

Among our projects are the Videoland true-crime hit series Rudi – Haunted by 9/11 and the documentary Remco vs. Pharma that sparked parliamentary questions, which ultimately led to the reimbursement of stem cell transplants for a specific group of MS patients in The Netherlands. In addition, we have produced specials for NTR Focus, Het Uur van de Wolf, and various heritage series. We also won a Crystal Film Award with the nature documentary De Biesbosch.

We collaborate with directors like Wim van der Aar, Jelmar Hoekstra, Femke Hoogendoorn, Rolf Meter, and Alessio Cuomo on our productions. We also have a regular collaboration with marine biologist, presenter, and nature and underwater filmmaker Hilmar Derksen. Our regular team also includes researchers, format developers, scriptwriters, and producers.

As a production company, we have extensive experience with diverse and complex shoots both domestically and internationally, including in the United States, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Suriname, Mexico, Lebanon, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Sweden and Spain.

Playback Images is an all-round creative production company with in-house full-service post-production facilities and a strong journalistic background. We conduct research and work with a wide range of archives. The combination of archival footage and newly shot material has become a true signature of our productions.

We are a member of the DAFF and the NAPA, which provides a collective voice to independent professional producers. The approximately 80 members are active in various disciplines, including feature films, drama series, documentaries, animation, interactive productions and games. The professional association aims to promote the common interests of its members and strengthen the production climate.

In addition to non-fiction titles, we also create corporate videos for brands, agencies, and advertisers such as: Unicef, Doctors Without Borders, Sunrock, iwell, SD worx, Albert Heijn, Veiligheidsregio Haaglanden, Huisman and KLM.
